In the midst of the punk/new wave period, Sting’s cleverly constructed lyrics and the group’s reggae-style rhythms made The Police one of the most successful rock bands of the late seventies. Originally The Police was considered as an English group because of the origin of its main writer and singer Sting. But American-born Steward Copeland contributed largely to its success. He gave the band its name and brought his brother, Miles, to insure the band’s commercial success. This week’s Tube-Langues, Roxane, dates back to 1978. This ballad was vritten by Sting. Its melody line was combined with a reggae beat.
